This year, GIS Day – which was spearheaded by Esri and commemorates the importance of geography and the uses of GIS – lands on Wednesday, November 14.
GIS – a.k.a Geographic Information System – is a way to capture, manage, analyze and present geographically referenced data. It’s a type of computerized mapping that’s essential to Spatial Wave’s mobile-based platforms that we in turn, provide for our clients.
In the wet utilities industry, it all ties back to location when it comes to planning, creating and maintaining a vastly distributed system. GIS enables an organization to make the best use of its available data – to identify patterns and trends that allow better decisions to be made – in the face of damage control or for planning for the future.
